My name is Nita Mendoza and I am Chicana lighting designer based in the Los Angeles area. I am a recent graduate of the University of California, Irvine (UCI) with a Masters of Fine Arts in Lighting Design. Before attending UCI, I received my Bachelor of Arts in Technical Theatre with an emphasis in Lighting Design from the University of Texas at El Paso.

"Hay que echarle ganas" which roughly translates to "you have to give it all you've got" in Spanish is something that has been a part of my family's mantra for four generations. This mantra has influenced me as a woman of color and as an artist greatly due to the amount of women that I have encountered and lived with as of now. Because of this influence, my art is a spectrum covering fantasy, realism, and personal experiences. While working on my designs and collaborating with other artists, I integrate myself in my works through my mantra "hay que echarle ganas ".
